Downtown Builder Weitz Selected
for RED Development’s CityScape Block 77 Project

PHOENIX, Ariz. (January 15, 2008)…Mike Bontrager, president of the Southwest Business Unit of The Weitz Company, is pleased to announce that The Weitz Company has been selected by RED Development, LLC and the City of Phoenix to perform preconstruction and construction services on Block 77, one of the three blocks being developed as part of the CityScape mixed-use project in downtown Phoenix.

Bounded to the north and south by Washington and Jefferson Streets and to the east and west by Central and First Avenues, Block 77 currently consists of PatriotsSquarePark and an underground parking facility.  The CityScape Block 77 scope includes architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical repair and modifications to the existing five level underground parking garage; 80,000 square feet of retail, including AJ's Fine Foods; 65 rental apartments; and a newly redesigned Patriots Square Park featuring an array of hardscape, landscaping and water features. The retail mix on Block 77 will include specialty urban retail; neighborhood retail; and restaurants.

Construction will begin this February with an estimated completion of fourth quarter 2009. Familiar with the intricacies of building in Downtown Phoenix today, Weitz is the contractor on 44 Monroe and Summit at Copper Square, both highly anticipated downtown Phoenix residential high rise projects.
