WEITZ EMPLOYEES RAISE $10,000 TO BENEFIT MILE HIGH UNITED WAY
Company-Matched Funds Will Support Local Education Programs
DENVER, Colo. – September 19, 2008 – Employees of The Weitz Company Rocky Mountain Business Unit held their second annual silent auction yesterday to benefit Mile High United Way.
The company-wide fundraising effort raised $10,000 to support local educational programs that improve lives in the community.

As part of a long-standing relationship with United Way, The Weitz Company Rocky Mountain Business Unit began the tradition of a silent auction in 2007. Yesterday, Weitz employees and subcontractors were challenged to donate items for sale, and employees came together to bid on those items at an after-work barbeque. Big-ticket items were donated by Encore Electric, Rocky Mountain Prestress, A&D Reprographics, Shea Properties, CTL Thompson, Proline Construction Supply Experts and Contractor Supply, Inc. Food was provided by the Ulster Street Qdoba.

“This tradition demonstrates the camaraderie and spirit of giving among Weitz employees and our generous subcontractors,” said Bill Hornaday, president of The Weitz Company Rocky Mountain region. “We are proud to combine efforts to support United Way each year, to make the greatest impact on the community where we build every day.”
All funds were donated to Mile High United Way’s Youth Success, which is an initiative devoted to helping at-risk youth overcome obstacles and graduate from high school.
“Mile High United Way is thankful for ongoing contributions by Weitz to support local initiatives,” said Karen Murphy, Campaign Representative for Mile High United Way. “Through their energetic commitment to giving, Weitz employees continue to empower members of the metro Denver community to become productive and successful.”
Since the inception of the silent auction in 2007, Weitz employees have raised just under $18,000 for Mile High United Way.
