WEITZ EXPANDS COMMITMENT TO QUALITY ASSURANCE THROUGH SENIOR POSITION
Promotion of field expert brings specialized focus to quality program
DES MOINES, Iowa – November 3, 2008 – The Weitz Company, a premier national contractor with 153 years experience, announced today the expansion of their Quality Assurance Program with the promotion of John Cochran. Cochran will serve as director of the company’s structured quality program, leveraging his more than 30 years of experience in the field. In his new role, he will maximize the quality of client service and eliminate wasteful activities that lower productivity and increase costs of production.
“We understood the need for growth in our Quality Assurance Program in order to continue to provide our clients and partners more value and more predictable results,” said Len Martling, Chief Operating Officer for The Weitz Company. “Not only is this important to our building process, but our insurance and surety companies have been consistently relying on Weitz to set an industry standard in this arena. John brings the necessary passion, capability and leadership to oversee this effort.”
Cochran started his career with Weitz as a project engineer after graduating from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He went on to hold positions as project superintendent, senior project superintendent, field operations manager and his most recent position of construction manager. In these positions, Cochran led construction on many of Weitz’ legacy projects including the RE/MAX International Headquarters, University of Denver Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management Building, and National Jewish Health’s Molly Blank Conference Center.
John is a registered Professional Engineer and member of the American Society of Professional Engineers. He also participates in an external leadership program that brings contractors together, setting competition aside, all in the name of quality innovation.
