WEITZ COMPLETES SNOWMASS BASE VILLAGE PHASE ONE
Mixed-use project achieves long-term vision for world class resort

Denver, Colo. – January 7, 2009 – The Weitz Company, a premier national contractor in Colorado for more than 50 years, has completed Phase One construction for the redevelopment of Snowmass Base Village.  Weitz completed six structures for the mixed-use project on a fast-track schedule, including luxury condominiums, retail space, conference space and a children’s center, as well as a 600-car parking structure, totaling over 573,000 square feet.

“This project is an excellent example of The Weitz Company’s ability to manage a very complex project on a fast-track schedule, all while maintaining a strong working relationship with the Town of Snowmass Village and consistent communication with neighbors, residents and business owners,” said Bill Hornaday, President of The Weitz Company, Rocky Mountain region.  “Weitz was able to successfully dovetail its construction operations with a world-class ski resort, manage scheduling complications due to Rocky Mountain winters, and adhere to the Town’s guidelines for building materials.”

The new Snowmass Base Village is being developed by Related WestPac, a joint venture partnership between Related Companies, a fully integrated private real estate development company, and WestPac Investments Colorado LLC, a diversified Real Estate Investment and development company.

The Weitz Company began Phase One of the project in Spring 2005.  Weitz completed Hayden Lodge, a new 25,000 square-foot condominium, and the Tree House, a state-of-the-art children’s center last fall, while the Capital Peak Lodge A, which includes conference space and an arts and entertainment facility, opened earlier this year.  The remaining structures were completed in November, in time for the 2008-2009 ski season.

The 80-acre master plan for redevelopment also called for sustainable development and energy-efficiencies.  Weitz constructed two LEED-certified mixed-use buildings, as well as storm water drainage and treatment facilities designed to reduce pollutants, such as sediment, that could potentially drain to the nearby Brush Creek.

The project’s designers included Cottle, Carr, Yaw Architects, OZ Architecture and 4240 Architecture.

The work completed on the new Snowmass Base Village has helped bring a long-term vision to life while preserving the beauty and appeal of Aspen.
